Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Tetsuya Naito in the finals of the 48-man (46 after two injury forfeits) New Japan Cup to win the tournament for the second time, the first coming in 2018. Sabre won at 24:42 with a Zack Driver.
Sabre seemed the long shot given the story that Naito was trying to get Sabre back for a Sabre win in the G-1 Climax, a match in which Naito was injured, removing him from the tournament. Sabre moves on to face Kazuchika Okada for the Heavyweight Championship. Naito defeated Okada in the final four of the tournament, so he’s likely to have another shot coming sometime as well.
Sabre defeated Ryohei Oiwa, DOUKI, Great O-Khan, Will Ospreay and Shingo Takagi to reach the finals.
On the undercard, steps were taken toward the feuds of Tomohiro Ishii vs. Minoru Suzuki, Sho vs. El Desperado, Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb vs. Yoshi-Hashi and Hirooki Goto, and Hiromu Takahashi vs. Evil.
Full recap coming from Sean Radican later.
